I just repowered this year with a 250 Yamaha four stroke, and it blows Mercury out of the water. It has not given me an ounce of trouble, unlike my Mercury. Defiantly Yamaha.

without question if you are looking for reliability Yamaha is the answer. If you are looking for a high performance mid range gas guzzler merc has the market. If you go merc understand you can,t troll for long periods without reprograming your censors

I have 275 Verados and that hasnt been my experience. I run a 34 Venture and troll at 7-8 mph and burn about 2.3 gph. Deep dropping they burn .6 gph total. The motors push the boat well and I can cruise at 30 to 40 mph and still get well over a mile per gallon. the only problems to date at 400 hrs have been having to replace both fuel pumps at 100 hrs but I understand that the pumps have been re-designed and I havent had a problem since. I had 2 stroke 250 carbuereted Yamahas before the Mercs and put 1700 hrs on them. They ran well but burned a lot more gas and blew a power head at 1100 hrs. Just my 2 cents.

I am also running twin 275 Verados and knock on wood haven't had an ounce of trouble, the engines are about a year old and have well over 100 hours on them, and we troll a lot. They are pushing a 35 Donzi ZF and they burn less gas and the boat is faster then most boats in the 30-38 foot range with twins or trips on them.... Hands down from experience Mercury all the way
Good luck either way on whatever engine you choose
