Good News Since we don`t have a budget anymore and i`m in boat mode both engines have been started, heads, turbos intercoolers, all pumps, connectors , new wiring harnesses, hoses and anything that moves is being replaced and the trans are all torn apart and I'm told in 300 different pieces. new pulleys ,starters, alternators, belts, thermostats, elbows , the list goes on and chit the parts are expensive.

DL, found out that the new aftermarket transmission coolers that were "Better" overheated the port transmission and FUSED it together in forward thats how it locked up and the starboard got so hot it glazed the clutches like glass...... Now lets note that I would turn off port engine to troll or deep drop and run starboard that is the reason the clutches got cooked on starboard, The Port transmission fusing to one pc was done on a hard run back to the barn and we found out it was real hard to dock that day on two props . The very expensive aftermarket goods also leaked water through the exchangers into the transmission oil. The loaded timkin bearings rusted and came apart from the water I am told this was good because it fell apart as it was disassembled

On a better note I will have full engine and transmission auto oil change systems put in to make hard work easy.

Spoke about replacing them with a dealer today with new engines and OMG sticker shock for what I would need to replace the iron. Then I am told by the dealer that sells 4 different brands I really have the best and total rebuild is a lot less and the iron I have is better than most out there in its size class. That made it easier to write the check anyway. Closer to having the ridgeway design back in the water. We can fish Buddy's old stomp grounds

DL, The past was a blast, we just didnt know how good we had it then

I`m breaking out my old 704`s and harnells with the 12/0 blk senators mounted on Varmacs with hickory butts with 4 foot Mildrums. Now dats old school. Better yet I caught multiple hundreds of kings and hoos with a rod that has aetna`s and a SSDL top..... I have NEW SSDLS that are about 50 yrs old. never used. Also got my Quicks from Germany and there in great shape. I put them away 32 yrs ago cause Uncle Charlie gave me new Ocean City`s to fish with and I wanted to be polite and show him I used them. Those were some ugly noisy spinners that never crapped out. CONO ! Now we use USA made 9500ss with the mother of drags under the spool. will post the SSDL pics later

DL Heres some oldschool parts pics

The SSDL carbide Ring Top is from when men were men and women were double breasted

The pompanet kit reel pic is not loading or the Mildrum 4 foot roller guides. When Napier changed the manufacturing and went to the ridged beryllium copper alloy mildrums that just killed the product . Ted Bensen was the President of Mildrum and Herb Zimblus was the CEO of Napier who owned Mildrum. Two great fisherman and Very nice people.

update,
Paint prep has been well underway , Very meticulous to keep bill ridiculous , New custom top is in fabrication with everything including the kitchen sink, New custom leaning post and tackle center, Very happy with builder so far, New cushions being made to replace every last one, every hatch is new on way, Props are back , Freight company cost me 12 K+ to fight over, Engines and trans are in major overhaul and recondition, The fused transmission needs everything but the case and shifting link, Two new custom trans coolers, complete new tabs system, Will probably finish electronics order tomorrow with new transducer plus custom glassed in console box to be designed and made for electronics, I`m covered up at work, Had a Fire at my house on rear patio , (really not good) but everybody is OK and 40-50 k all insured . Could have been much much worse, Igloo coolers burn very hot , good thing i was home and not fishing tues nite, was home to be a fireman. Don`t ever think it cant happen and be ready to think fast. Will write separate thread on my findings. Most important is that all hands safe and accounted for, Can replace everything else. Will update from work, need to attend worksheets now so I can be with boat in the day, meet with adjuster on Sat.am so It looks like I`m rebuilding some of the house too. Just another week gone by

Hey everyone,

Yup , were still not done yet and as optimistic as i would like to be, Doing things right takes time. So far new is paint inside and out, New hatches, pumps, tabs, new bolsters being made, T Top almost ready, new leaning post and tackle center, hull lights, modified console to house all the new electronics. Cutlass bearings and shaft seals, thru hull fittings etc. The Diesels have been completely gone through with staggering mass quantities of $`s spent on the new parts on the Volvos but still way less than a new pair. The transmissions were both torn down and completely rebuilt down to the Vulcan couplings. Hope to have the iron back in two weeks. Trying to be back in the water by April ..... well trying anyway. and yes Bluelight , I put the license plates back on . Heres some dated pics. Much more should be coming together faster now towards being finished I hope. TE

Well Guys......

Progress

It really is a couple weeks away. Lets say I used the same rudders and shafts and hull. Everything else is new !!! Phck the budget, the time and the yard costs. This is my personal boat and field office. I have been keeping people working on my boat and doing what I can for the economy. Many thanks to Chris @Meridian yachts , Dave and Ritchie@ DieselTeck, and Brett@ Garrett Towers. Heres a few picks. Will add some more in a while The Top should go on next week and then all new electronics installed and sea trials more pics will follow

Looks great bro! That is one of my favorite boats ever made. Just looks awesome and is heavy duty with those diesels. Good luck finishing her up and thanks for the pics. You gotta be stoked on that thing right now!

Cheers,

Dave
