Default I need Boat Insurance in Dade County now!

Fellas,
I am in need of a new boat policy. Most companys will not write me because of my location. I live in Dade county with the boat in the water. Need a replacement value of 92K. Progressive quoted me 4K. No way! I'am waiting on Boat U.S. If you all can help please let me know. Thanks.

I have a boat in the water in Palm Beach with replacement value coverage in the amount of $175,000. This is also with Progressive. It's hard to understand why such a difference. When I quoted Boat US, they were higher. You may want to consult an independent dealer to shop around for you. Another possibility is to attach the boat to a homeownwers policy.
You failed to mention if commercial or recreational vessel. This would also make a difference.

It doesn't matter. My commercial insurance is $4,063 per year on 125K agreed value. I have Markel who I got through Charter Lakes in Jacksonville. You aren't going to find the under 1K of the olden days. Insurance is a cut throat business now and we are the ones being bled dry.

Don't hold your breath waiting on Boat US. That is a West Marine Company and there is nothing cheap with West Marine. Most all I know that get quoted from Boat US say it is double the price/

I use UMU for my boat insurance. If they cant do it they will refer to someone who can. Lets face it Fla is never going to be fun to insure

How would that work? (in order to attach it to homeowner)

I'd definitely try Charter Lakes in JAX. They were 50% of my former insurance agent's quote. Same coverage, more area. BoatUS was $2,000 higher than the local guy.

I could not get a quote in Miami for under $5000.00 for $99K value (& that's underinsuring my boat). Whoever did quote would not include Hurricane coverage or would have a 25% deductible for hurricane, another told me I had to move my boat out of the "cone" issued by the Hurricane Center within 24 hours or it would not be covered.

Finally got a quote for $4500.00 with Offshore Risk Management, Telephone 305 396-6215 888-548-9468 a lady by the name of Kitt.

Hope that helps

Wow! I got nailed by Markel on my rnewel last month. I went from $4063 to $6527. When I questioned it the answer reminded me of when my Mom used to answer me "Because I said so!" Oh yeah, a week later they sent me a notice nstating they could reduce my premium to $3000 next hyear if I drop my hurricane coverage. Hell, other than liability or a total theft there is not much use in having insurance at all since the deductible is higher than most normal incidents.

Got us by the short hairs, boyz!

Think about it! Everyone in S Florida is paying 14 X or better on all insurance rates on homeowners and boats than they did pre Andrew. If they can get by without a major hurricane in the area for 2 years they will be fat cats again. Ya think we'll get a rebate?
