both very nice boats, but no vessel in the 30' - 35' range rides good at +30 kts in a 6' head sea. Good maybe considering the sea conditions, but any boat that goes airborn has to come down hard on the next wave.

My point was that there is a limit to how hard a rational person should run a boat in 6' seas and 900hp hanging off the back means nothing if you need to wear a helmet.

Broadbill-pro,

I just wanted to update you on my findings with the Suzuki's. I think Suzuki puts out a good product but was in a hurry in the race for HP. As I stated, I believe they hve most of the bugs worked out.

My WorldCat 33' will do 26.5 knts in a 4-6' sea and does not land hard. She has very sharp entries on the bows and slices and dices the seas very well with 12500# of weight to push the 2 hulls (only 3' wide) back into the water. Check out the video on my website and you will see her running on a brisk December morning in 2003. Note my daughter sliding up onto the seat at about 35 seconds into the video.

I didn't suggest a WorldCat because the guy had a $140K price range and you can't touch a 330TE for that, unless you get lucky and find a used '03.

Sword123: Regulator's are nice I have heard, if you want to step up twice when you are fighting a sword on the grounds. The deep V hull will also rock more. The Hydra-Sports is not a deep V hull and barely rocks at all.

Broadbill-Pro: We were doing 32 mph in 4-6' head seas coming home from north rock. We probably weighed about 12,000 lbs said and done so there was no flying out of the air and coming down hard.

Just do your research, I would certainly tell you to atleast go check out Hydra-Sports. Plantation Boat mart is in Tavernier Florida, right next to Islanmorada. Talk to Carl, he races offshore boats and will take you for a run in some nasty seas.

Beast,

Actually there has been 3 recalls on my motors since I bought them. Since they are still in the box at the Dealer, they have been updated.

I was talking about mono hulls, the Cat hulls have an advantage in a rough sea. As long as the stay together. The World-Cat seems to have developed a strong hull. I will check out your site.

R33,

How do you post from school? Ballest, trim and operator have a lot to do with ride. That is why I have reconfigured the fuel tanks on my Ocean Master. The Hydra Sport is a good, tough vessel in it's size class. I nearly bought one last year.

BTW, I was speaking to Steve at Hi-Liner a few days ago (my wife works there) and he says you and your Dad at great guys. Looking forward to meeting you soon.

I have a Legend 34, made in Hobe Sound. I got the boat in '02 for 145,000 -- it was originally made for a guy planning on fishing the SKA tournies but had to back out cuz he couldnt make the payments -- fell into my lap because they were using it as a demo. It has 225 optis on it, and they run great. The hull is lighter than the venture hull, but is the same design, as the designers of the Legend came from venture. I bought it in January of 2002 and since then have put 1500 hours on the engines with no problems with the boat or engines other than the usual change of saltwater pumps. Just came back from Walkers this week in a nasty 6'-8' Gulf Stream and kept the boat running at a steady 28 knots...the only problem is, the company doesnt exist anymore. Of all the boats on the market, the one most like the Legend is the Island Runner 34, a very solid boat with tons of options...check them out.

I don't know Steve very much but my Dad says he is a great guy and he seems to be the same through my eyes as well.

Ok well heres some more questions for ya'll... and dont take this the wrong way. right now we have a larger boat , a 48' sea ray sedan bridge.

EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS BROKEN and its a huge pain in the ass

what types of problems do you run into with a center console boat. I mean, i suppose pumps can go out, motors need repair, electrical stuff, etc.

We are just trying to see how much maintnance is going to cost us comparatively. Right now, its an obsurd amount monthly just to keep the boat in good shape. I just dont see how a CC could require as much constant flow of $$.

Ex. right now every 100 hours we had to change the oil...its over 40 gallons...its expensive

Also...where do people keep these big CCs? We do not live in-state... we pay 50 cents/day/foot right now for a dock in a canal in lauderdale.

We got the boat without GPS fix. Meaning the machine can't tell you where you are on the earth. When theyfixed that it was because they had the wrong version in it. Fixed that problem was solved, no sirius radio the next day. Oookkk...they somehow disconnected the plug just enough to where it wouldn't work. Motor service is every 100 hours like yours are.

The main thing is just take care of her and she'll last forever. Of course you are going to have basic occurances here and there like fuses go etc. But when you take care of her, it'll show.

I am a firm believer in the old adage that if you don't use it, you lose it. Sitting dormant is the worst thing in boat ownership.

My center console rig has had one hose replaced on the raw water washdown and a couple of live well pumps which run 8 hrs on just about every trip. My Honda 225's have had no repairs in the 1800+ hours they've been running. The oil & filter is changed every 125-150 hours (2 gal total). The fuel filter (250 hrs) water pump impeller, lower unit oils (synthetic) is changed every 500 hours. Spark plugs (Iridium) and valve adjustments have never had to be changed or adjusted.

I wax the hull with paste whenever I pull her out for maintenance. I keep woody wax on the inner liner and decks and 303 on the vinyl about every 3-4 weeks. She still looks great after almost 3 years of charter fishing.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I had to replace a pinched fuel hose. I replaced both of them with larger diameter hose than the little cheap Honda fuel line that is standard.
