I have had the honda 225 on a 25ft. and it sucked for power have yamaha's now , but weight on a 4stroke is going to be a factor. I like the thought of E-tec most likely best pound for pound out there today.

runs great! drinks about 82 gallons of fuel to a gallon of oil. there are a set of 225 yamahas on craigslist for 4k right now though heck you can buy the two and have a spare and it's plug n play with your wires and cables still the pics look great on the add also but I would do a compressions test

I had a 1991 211 Mako with a 225 2 stroke Yamaha, it is was tail heavy and needed a lot of tab to trim the nose down.
Sold the boat to a friend, and he repowered with a 225 Yami 4 stroke; you can imagine how tail heavy it became. One time it sunk at the dock from a combo of the extra weight, lots of rain, and drained batteries from the bilge working overtime! I'd definitely keep the engine weight down on these hulls. How about a HPDI, Optimax, or Etec? (The original post is from Feb.) |
