I want to install a transom fishbox on my 46' Post; am looking for a fiberglass shop that makes one that I can buy and install. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks....

I hear you....I had one installed on my last boat (38' Luhrs) and loved it: real convenient not having to lug a big cooler in and out, saves a ton of cockpit space, and it's MUCH safer to not have a heavy cooler sliding around in rough seas. I just spoke to a company called "Fiber Tech" in Miami; gonna slip down there and see what they got. Anybody know anything about them?

I'd get one custom made for the boat, and have it made on-site. A decent fiberglass man can build the box out of 2" polyurethane foam, faired, and painted in probably 3 days. I'm not the mack daddy of glass, but I've done a fairly good bit and I know I can make such a box in a half week and have it look damn good. All of this, of course, is weather dependent.

Thanks for the replies; I'm striking out on the "pre-fab" thing; my fiberglass guy's certain he can make what I need and he's done some great work for a Charterboat Captain friend of mine. He'll get going on it next week and knows what he's doing; but (@#$&!!) I feel REAL uncomfortable with anybody (including me) buzz-sawing into the gunnel of my baby!
I'll post some pics when the deed is done... |

Sawzalls always bring terror to my eyes as well. They are a tool of destruction and nothing more. You cannot build anything with a sawzall, only destroy.

Tearing out the old teak, then glassing in the box, then glassing the gunnels, and then painting took about 2 weeks. Bad weather held us up several days. Had an OUTSTANDING fiberglass guy that did most of the work. Had to wait 2-3 weeks for the "flexiteek" to get fabricated, then that took one day to install. Popped the rod holders and fuel & water fills back in place and project complete! Now it's time to get some fish blood installed!

He who built it should have put a toe kick at the bottom of it. It would have been more comfortable to stand next to it.
