in reference to ian miller grips,
cork is the correct material to use under leather,
a cork sheet cut into strips of about 25mm then laid upon each other until you have desired thickness.
each layer should be glued either with an epoxy 5min or an water proof contact glue.
the cork is then sanded to make two nicely shaped cones and then i normally paint the cones black before
