I had my Shimano Spheros 14000 spooled up with #60 Braid on a 15-30# class rod (although 20-50# rod would be a better pick for that task), which I could use as a pitch bait if nothing else was available, or just to toss another bait into the water to perhaps try to switch it. It is a perfect suited backup rod: believe me, a 7 lb. dolphin has no problem slurping down a pin rigged medium squid with a 9/0 hook in it, which would be its primary mission.

Look for the post that Another Grand started a while back. He shows his setup. I think he had a high end spinner, Accurate perhaps. Pay careful attention to the clip rings that he has on the rod. It enables a harness attachment which I think that clip ring would be one of the most crucial features of a spinner if you put it up for this type of task.

Those Daiwa BGs and the Penn SSs are built like tanks and would do the task just fine and dandy, gearwise. I did a drag test on the Spheros and tested it at full spool, heavy drag at 25 lbs. Really bearing down on it got it to 30# but it feels like you are about to break something at that torque. I have no idea how the gears would hold up though.

Stellas are high end reels with a strong drag but I believe they are also high gear ratio. Those reels are beyond my budget for a spinner, so you are a lucky one to have one/more of those bad boys.

We're waiting for the pics to come in with a Broadbill on a spinner. It will certainly happen one day. There was a video about a billfish and spinner plus one more daisy chained: don't recall if it was a Blue or a Broad. Have fun.
