Drove up to fish the north drift Tuesday night on a friend's 27 Contender out of LWI. Sat in his condo until about 10:00 watching the weather before we decided to head out. Did a quick drift in 800' waiting for the storms to clear further offshore, with no action, then headed out to set up south of the humps. Had one legal fish hit a squid, swim up and jump right alongside the boat, almost taking my head off in the process. About an hour later, had a fish pop the shallow balloon. After a 40 min. fight, pulled a fat 64" fish in the boat. Had one more hit that pulled after 5 minutes, then while reeling in the baits at 3 am, had a fish follow a squid up to the boat. Dropped the squid down, fish took it, at was at the boat after a quick fight. Turned out to be a pup, so released it, and headed for home, hitting the dock at about 4:15 going 2 for 4. Didn't see another boat offshore, and only heard one or two on the radio. All in all, a night that we thought we wouldn't make it out at all turned into one of the better nights we've had.
