? Another question for the experts ? Is WD-40 safe to use on tackle gear, including hooks and other tackle items? I thought I have read somewhere that it is derived from fish oils and that it was even banned from some freshwater fishing tournaments (not allowed to spray on lures, etc., perhaps because it is a fish attractant) ??????
I have also heard of some fishermen being very sensitive about NOT getting sunscreen or even cigarette flavor onto terminal tackle. (Maybe even Bananas - ) So I just wonder if that is truly a significant concern or not and whether the WD-40 could have similar detrimental effects (or perhaps the opposite if it smells good to fish).
Personally, I spray WD-40 onto my tackle gear all the time because I seem to always get salt water spray into the box compartments. And I just hate rusty stuff.
Any sound advice on these inquiries?

I think it is petrolium based.
