Default Costa Rica

I went over on Memorial day weekend out of Jaco / Los Suenos. I had a blast but the fishing was very poor. The rainy season has triggered a red tide algae bloom. The blue water was well over 40 miles out and the near shore water was dirty / muddy at the river mouth also due to the rains and run off so the rooster fishing was weak too. Hopefully by the time you get there in June the red tide will have passed. You may want to check out the tropic section on the other forum for updates. I do not know how far away you will be from Jaco but I think the more you look into this you will hear similar reports.

I fished only one day due to how poor the reports were. I had to at least try to give it a shot. We saw tons of debris and an entire tree in the water with birds on the branches and absolutely no lfe in the water around it. I was amazed. We managed to catch one small dolphin and one bonito. I am Irish and my good luck escaped me for this trip. I will be back in January or February in peek season to get the full Costa Rica fishing experience.

I suggest that you hit the marina you plan on fishing out of and get some local knowledge before you charter multiple days.

If you have time for some side trips - try the canopy tour, white water rafting and definitely rent ATV's to go back roads and up in the mountains.

Good luck and tight lines.
