Hey Ray. Yes, Capt. Ed is the man! Garrett, his mate rocks too.
I was completely shot after 2 hours. The leaders had to get pretty light at the end of the day to get the bite. 80# fluoro that was badly chafed with curly Q's by the end. I was sure it was going to pop. I had 21# of drag with my hands on and off the spool for extra drag during the circles. We were sure he'd pop it but had to go up in drag cause the front was coming and I was crapping out. They stuck him because I never popped his head up and if we had tried to hand line the wind on I think it would have popped.
I caught my last bluefin in Hatters in January 2003 that want around 600#. We had an unlimited stick, 130, 400# top shot and a bucket harness in the chair. Six minutes till tag in, in 30 fathoms.
This allison killed me! Way tougher than any bluefin or bigeye I've ever caught. Anyone agree that the big yft/allisons kick azz more than other tunas?
Next time I'm staying on the bridge with the camera! It's a young man's game. Took me 2 days to be able to stand up straight!
Let's go see if we can put some unsuspecting victim on a swordie when the dang wind quits blowing.
