Yeah, Boston Mackerel are different (but damn similar) from Tinkers. Boston mackerels are sold by the 40# flat, and are the staple bait of bandit fishermen and long liners. In Destin and ports thereabout, calling it a "tinker" will solicit confused looks. They're SPEEDOS, damnit! We will catch them some times right in the pass, but usually you have to drop large sabikis in 150-300' when you see the big spike of them on the bottom. Of course, some times it's just 4" mingos and whatnot instead. If you can find a pile of good speedos for bait, it doesn't matter what you're fishing for. Everything eats them. You'll catch snappers, groupers, jacks, tunas, or whatever you're on top of. I just wish we could find them reliably.
