It was blowing a good 20 knots that day, and the testosterone levels were at their highest. When the commitee boat sounded the horn, everyone floored the throttles. Little by little, boats started pulling back on the throttles as we got closer to the drop-off except a 33' Hydra. That guy demoralized everyone racing out there. It was the most impressive thing I have ever seen.
I've been in plenty of Contenders, and I (OPINION) don't see the big deal about them. I think the boat is over-rated; too expensive for what you are getting in return. It is very plane jane. The finish is similar to a Dusky. If its use is strictly for fishing then I can see why someone would buy a Contender. However, as a general utility boat, it isn't the best choice. I would prefer the 36' Yellowfin. That's my opinion, and i'm entitled to it.

It is the 2796 LOA is right at 29', it is a very heavy boat and holds its own in any seas. I have been out on the Contenders and had to go to allignment of the spine after the was over. I believe the hype is the speed, Contenders are fast boats, and for that application they are nice, just hope it don't get rough. I like the fact the HS holds alot of fuel and the console is nothing but the best out there. The way they set them up, Awsome. Mine is a 2003 and Have had the best of luck with it. It drifts streight and is pritty stable even with the deep V. I weighed my at the truck stop with fuel and some gear and was amazed with half tank of water and full fuel its a barge at 9,982 pounds.
My only kicker is the 225 four strokes. Takes a little to plain but once up it going. It could use 250's. I saw one with 2-250 Etecs the other day. It looked Mad. I just had the front spray guard and enclosure redone and its nice very low profile front with trataglass enclosure.
