I have been a lurker for a while and I am finally jumping in and joining the fun. I have been Sword fishing for a few years on a friends boat and we have done quite well. I have reciently purchased a 26 regulator to travel to the 50 line and have some fun. The boat is finally all rigged and now I am lookig to purchase the rods and reels. I have decided to go with the Tiagras 50WLRS spooled with jerry brown and a top shot of 80.

I compared the Shimano's to the Penn and The Shimano's just seem to offer more for the bang. Is there an overall oppinion about the 50WLRS? Besides moving into the world of 80's IS there a better choice than the 50WLRS? How much line should I top shot the reel with? And finally should I go with the JB 80 or 100lb braid?

Thanks for your help, I do not have the braid issues down because all we fish on my friends boat is Penn 80W with 80lb Suffix.
