hi guys im new to this site. i went on my first commercial swordfishing trip last week..it was amazing. we caught 80 swordies all over 30 lbs with 10 markers. i caught a 78 lb fish the first night on rod and reel..and the last night i had myself humbled by a fish we estimated at 175 lbs. he spooled me in about 30 seconds  we use a real simple rig both on longline and on rod and real...about a 15-25 ft leader of 200lb mono on the rod and reel, attached with a barrel swivel on one end and a 16/0 offset J-hook on the other. we were using boston mack for bait. about 10 ft above the hook we used chem lights(also known as lightsticks, glowsticks ect.) with white being the most effective color. thread your hook through the bait and leave the hook point exposed facing the back of the bait. back your drag way off on the reel until you are sure the fish has swallowed the bait or you will pull the hook alot more often than not. good luck to you all.....
