Harry,

I am certain that L/P has a new "plastic" spool that was developed recently. The L/P reel I use on occasion is about a year old and had the spool with the new material (not sure what it is, some type of space age plastic/lexan/kriptonite). We filled it with Diamond #80 and did spread it. Eric told me that it is only the second spool that has spread since the modification and both were spooled with 80#. We decided to switch to the titanium spool. The reel is back there now, there is a bushing between the drag lever and the reel housing that swells with heat and locks up the lever. If the bushing is black it needs to be replaced, if gray then it will handle more heat.

Again, service there is off the chart. If there was any reason to spend the extra money for the L/P, that is it.
