Default downriggers

I always employ my Penn downriggers when trolling and have used wire cable until now. I just noticed that the cable on one of my downriggers needs to be replaced and was considering using Spectra type braid instead. Has anyone done this and with what pound test Spectra? How long does it last and are there any disadvantages over cable? What knot do you tie the relase clip on with? Might do one first and see how I like it before I commit to replacng the cable on both.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
