Tuna Galore, Ghost Rider Style (10/25 - 10/26)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this was a trip for the books. This trip was in every way one of the most enjoyable I have been on. Great crew, weather, catch, food, stories, you name it. Dave (Always-Gone-Fishing), Rob (fishtruck), Mike (Reeligion), Conrade, and myself accompanied Chris (Ghost Rider) for the long, but quick ride to bluewater.
Upon arrival at the rig, it didn't take long to cover the 38 Fountain in tuna blood. Tuna were skying everywhere, and hitting about every lure in the spread. The consistent tuna action was interrupted by a NICE blue marlin that ate the short corner lure.
After at least 10 jumps and grey hounding at the boat (and everywhere else), the line snapped...Didn't get to put our hands on the bill, but it was a sight to see.
As the sun set, the tuna action continued. The quality of tuna was amazing. Every fish was SOLID. We ended up keeping 8 beautiful YFT.
Sunrise Sunday, we started the day with a round of celebratory Bloody Marys in honor of the bloody deck. We didn't troll Sunday morning, or make any stops on the way in. We were more than pleased with out Tuna haul, and our near bill fish.
Conrad made the mistake of announcing he caught his first yellowfin on this trip, so at the dock, it was Yellowfin Heart with a side of Bud
light. He was man enough to do it, much respect earned.
Chris is a great captain, and has an amazing boat. Not often you get to cruise at 60mph getting 1.0mpg. I think we hit 75mph in the ICW. We did have an issue with fuel. There was some confusion regarding how much Surfside Marina pumped. We thought they filled her up, but not so. Not a big deal. We made it home, and the management at Surfside was very professional about the situation.
Looking forward to next time guys!!!
