I will admit, I was a little apprehensive buying this reel because it was SOOOO much cheaper than (what I deemed to be) comparable reels. But it has been up to the challenge every time. I've caught bonita, kings, grouper, and snapper on it and it never hiccuped. It is smoother than all the Penns and Shimanos I have used in the past. A lot of those reels felt like the internals were made of tinker toys. This Okuma is smooth, smooth, smooth. It glides when you are reeling with no reverse action whatsoever. I can't say that for any other reel I have used. There are only two things I have concerns with. 1st) While the drag is smooth, the difference between "Strike" and "Full" is minimal. I have to readjust the drag almost every time. Not a huge deal. Just not optimal. I plan on taking the drag apart to see if I can't re-grease the washers and improve the drag a little. We'll see. 2nd) The clicker is not really that loud. Again, not a BIG DEAL. I can hear it. But there is something viscerally exciting when a loud clicker goes off after something sizable hits your line. But overall, for less than half the price of a Penn I couldn't be happier. Time will tell if this was a good/bad/great investment. But after about ten trips, it looks, feels, and performs like I just took it out of the box.
