Great boat for a 4 person outting

Well, this is my first boat, and therefore, my first review, so I'd only say that this review should be taken at face value. It's a '99 Capri 1800 LS. We purchased it in March of '09, so it's 10yrs old.

It came with a 120HP Mercury Force outboard motor. Yes... old technology, but it still gets up and goes in a hurry. Really, the only downside is that you have to pre-mix your fuel (50:1 ratio) w/2-stroke oil, which is a pain, but since you're not boating every day, it's not something that you should be dwelling over. People use the Force engine as a negative bargaining chip, but as long as you stick to the newer outboards, you're fine. Gets up and planes quite quickly, although if you have a couple of 200 pound adults in the front, it's going to have a tough time getting the bow out of the water. With 3 adults and 2 kids in the boat, we hit a top speed of 39mph. It's a small boat, so if you hit choppy conditions, it'll be a rough ride also.

PROS: -LOTS of bang for the buck. I paid $5500 for the boat and trailer. Overall, in "good" condition. -Engine seems quite stout. Compression tested perfect. -Roomy interior -Comes with convertible top and bow cover which does a great job on rainy/choppy days -Enough power to have fun with -not very heavy (easy to pull w/a V6 Ford Escape) -good amount of storage area -integrated and removable ski pylon

CONS: -Only 2 speakers (5" diameter - NOT 5.25", so cutting's required for better speakers) -Just enough power to have fun with, but could still use a little more (150???) -Upholstery seems to have held up well, but both of the lounge chairs are showing signs of wear in the driver and navigator seats (stitching coming apart). However, this should be expected for a 10yr old boat. -Must pre-mix gas -Could've provided better access to transom area -Not much room for additional accessories (depth finder, etc) -Max operating HP (via coast guard sticker) is 120HP -Max weight is 750lbs (really??? Couldn't have made it 900lbs?)

I know I've listed a lot of cons, but it is what it is. It's a bow-rider that's big enough for a family of 4. It has a weight limit of 750lbs, which meas that it's big enough for 5 average weight adults, or 4 well fed adults. It makes a great weekend boat for the lake, but I wouldn't recommend it for salt water unless you're in a well sheltered area.

It's been perfect for what we use it for. Weekend fun on the lake. Pulling tubes, skies, wakeboards, etc. It would make an excellent first boat for anyone as it's very simple. I'm sure our next boat (once we have a bigger vehicle to pull it with) will be 20-24'. It is definately true what they say... boating is addicting, and I have this fine little boat to thank for it.
